Joint Pain
Joint pain can lead to an inability to carry out life's daily functions. It has many causes, most of which should be taken seriously. Depending on the particular cause, joint pain can be managed or done away with all together.
Cause of Joint Pain
*Trauma
Strenuous physical activity often leads to stressful joint injuries. They include sprains, twists, tears and torques. In serious cases, an entire joint may be stressed into tearing completely, such as an ACL tear.
*Arthritis
This term applies to a group of degenerative diseases that eventually work away part or all of a joint, leaving victims in excruciating pain.
*Time and Wear
As you age, your joints and their component parts degenerate. However, this normally does not become a problem until after the age of 60, unless a disease or other condition is present.
Treatment and care
There are many weapons in the arsenal against pain in the joints. If trauma is the cause, then you must stabilize the damaged joint and then apply the appropriate temperature compress. This will keep the pain at a manageable level until you get in contact with medical professionals should this be appropriate.
For pain that is not caused by trauma, medication and herbs work wonders. Each patient is different with different needs and a doctor or herbalist can help decide which medicines are right for your case.
Joint pain can also be treated with physical therapy. This can be a trying time for many people. Sessions are often painful and frustrating in the short term. However, in the long run, a patient can rehabilitate his joints and or learn to move in a way that is less painful.
Surgery can be employed to treat serious cases of joint pain. Essentially, most surgeries of this nature are for the purpose of removing a portion or the entire joint and replacing it with a prosthetic device of some sort, such as in partial or total knee replacement surgery. These operations are performed when there is no other option available to a patient. The pain levels suffered at this stage are unbearable and literally debilitating, which is why surgery is chosen.
